Madonna Has "Material Girl" Fashion Line Sewn Up
by Claudine Zap While Madonna is the original ” Material Girl ,” it’s fair to say she is far from girlhood at this point. Still, that hasn’t stopped her from creating a “Material Girl” fashion line at Macy’s with her actual girl, Lourdes Leon. The diva’s daughter helped design the junior’s department duds for the August 3 launch. As their website notes, doors open at 10 a.m. — apparently Macy’s expects fans to storm the store for tutus and combat boots. To help get the word out that the ’80s and Madonna are still cool, Lola, as she is known, has started a blog . If you want to know what a 13-year-old with a famous mom thinks about gladiator sandals (so three years ago) and ’80s fashion (obsessed!) then this will be a must-read for you. Those in the mood to see what Madonna and child have created together, well, think time machine. We love, by the way, that People magazine suggests that shopping the Madonna brand is ” just in time for back-to-school wardrobes .” Um, OK. Expect to see ‘tweens headed to class decked in ripped metallic leggings, studded leather jackets, and armfuls of bracelets. In a nod to the real world, the line is actually priced to move : $12-40. ’80s pop icon not included.
Flying Car a Step Closer to Reality
by Mike Krumboltz Weird-looking cars are a dime a dozen. Far less common are weird-looking cars that can also fly AND have approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. Indeed, as far as we know, there’s only one of those babies: The Terrafugia Transition. The private aircraft/funky-looking car has been in the news before. But the recent announcement that it’s going into production sparked mega-searches on the Web. Almost immediately, online lookups for ” terrafugia transition ” and ” terrafugia transition pictures ” both, well, took off. A popular article from the UK’s Daily Telegraph explains that the FAA’s special exemption allows the vehicle to function as both a “light aircraft” and a car. Normally, for a plane to meet the “light aircraft” designation, it can weigh no more than 1,200 pounds. The Terrafugia Transition weighs 1,320, due primarily to the number of car-related safety features, like airbags and crumple zones. The “light aircraft” designation is key, because licenses for planes with that label require only 20 hours of flying time. Fewer hoops to jump through means more potential sales. So, how does the plane/car work? Check out the flying car’s official video below. So far, 70 people have placed a deposit . The total retail cost : $194,000. Expensive, but really, can you put a price on skipping commercial flights? Flying Car Video – Terrafugia @ Yahoo! Video

According to a buzzy article from the BBC , researchers have discovered that the male Molly fish sports a “moustache” because “female fish find the moustache sexually attractive.” This is news to everyone but Burt Reynolds and Magnum, P.I.

‘Rocky’ Could Play Gotti
by Claudine Zap John Gotti Jr . wants his father’s story to be told. And if rumors are to be believed, he wants Sylvester Stallone to tell it. That’s right: “Rocky” could do “Gotti.” It’s an offer movie-goers just couldn’t refuse. According to the gossip site TMZ , the son of the mob boss is in talks with the mother of all action heroes to play the part of his dad. Rambo, meet your match. John Gotti , who died in prison in 2002, was the head of the Gambino crime family . He was convicted of committing 13 murders back in 1992. Think of this movie as “The Real Godfather of New York City.” The movie supposedly would be focused on Junior’s memories of dad. The guy is a chip off the old block: Junior also did time for the crime of racketeering, but was released in 2005. We assume Stallone would be paid in bags of cash.

Facebook Showdown: Obama vs. Gaga
by Mike Krumboltz It’s not every day that the leader of the free world goes head-to-head with a singer known for wearing studded bras. But such a contest is brewing this weekend…on Facebook . The popular social networking site announced that President Obama and musician Lady Gaga are neck and neck in terms of their fan numbers; both are approaching the 10 million mark. As of press time, Pres. Obama has 9,109,788 fans, slightly behind Ms. Gaga, who has 9,138,206 supporters. Yes, it’s all a bit silly. And true, there’s no prize for the person who hits 10 million first. But the tightness of the race, combined with the very different public personas of the contestants, does speak to the universality of the Web. Where else can the most powerful man on the planet do battle with a glam rocker…and possibly come in second? Whoever gets to 10 million fans first will still have a ways to go before they become the most popular celebrity on Facebook. According to a buzzy article from CNN, that title belongs to the late, great Michael Jackson , who has over 13 million fans. Searching for Facebook profiles is a popular pastime on Yahoo!. The New Face of BP
by Mike Krumboltz Ever since the BP oil spill began to creep across the Gulf of Mexico, folks have been asking, “Who do we blame?” Of course, there’s no one person at fault. However BP has made a consicious effort to make one person the face of the recovery effort. His name is Darryl Willis and you may have seen him in BP’s recent PR blitz. In the ads, Mr. Willis explains that he is overseeing the claims process for victims of the Gulf Coast oil spill, a job that he volunteered for because he was born and raised in the Gulf region. The ads have stirred up no small amount of interest in Mr. Willis, who many would argue has perhaps the toughest job in the world right now. Web searches on “daryl willis bp” jumped from nil into breakout status in just under a week. He recently gave an interview with Ad Age about his decision to be the face of BP’s recovery efforts. In the interview, Mr. Willis responds to those who might suspect that his being on a commercial is “just a clever PR move on the part of BP.” He remarks that he took the job not “to be part of any PR stunt,” but because he “care(s) about how people are treated through this process.” Indeed, Mr. Willis does come across as sincere in his efforts to help those affected by his company’s monumental blunder. In the commercial, he speaks of his familiy in …
